Calcitonin is used in the treatment of Paget's disease and also as an auxiliary drug in increasing blood calcium, prevention and auxiliary treatment of osteoporosis during menopause, as well as secondary osteoporosis caused by hormonal disorders, hyperphosphatase and for the auxiliary treatment of acute hypercalcemia.

Salmon calcitonin has been shown to reduce infant weight in pregnant laboratory animals. Considering that calcitonin does not cross the placenta, this effect may be related to its metabolic effects on pregnant animals. Considering that not enough studies have been done in pregnant humans, this medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women.

Clotonix should not be prescribed for lactating women. Calcitonin consumption in animals has been shown to reduce milk secretion.

Attention

While taking this medicine, consult your doctor about the dosage in the following cases:

In case of irritation in the nasal mucosa.

If after 3 weeks there are no signs of improvement or your symptoms worsen.

During treatment with this drug, increase bone density (BMD) should be checked.

Salmon calcitonin should be taken in combination with calcium and vitamin D in diseases related to bone density deficiency.

Precautions

Avoid using this product if you have a history of allergy to salmon calcitonin or any of the inactive ingredients such as benzalkonium in the drug formulation.

For patients suspected of sensitivity to calcitonin, a skin test should be performed with a diluted solution of calcitonin injection before starting.

SideEffects

Using Caltonix® nasal spray may cause irritation, itching, discharge in the nasal mucosa, dryness and bleeding from the nose. Meanwhile, the patient may experience flushing, headache, dizziness, chest pain, cough, joint pain, and back pain.

The dosage of each drug is determined by the doctor. But the usual dose of this drug is as follows:

Caltonix 100:

The dosage of Caltonix® nasal spray 100 units in postmenopausal women for the treatment of osteoporosis is 2 puffs per day.

Caltonix 200:

The dosage of calltonix nasal spray is 200 units in postmenopausal women for the treatment of osteoporosis, 1 puff per day.

Maintenance

  • The prepared container should be kept at a temperature of 2 to 8 degrees Celsius before the first use, and after the first use of the medicine, it should be kept at room temperature.
  • Avoid using expired medicine.
  • Keep the bottle upright.
